Builder Community Certification

  1. Submit the completed California Green Builder (CGB) Application either on-line or by mail to the program coordinator with required attachments:
    • T-24 report
    • ACCA load calculations
    • Landscape plans
    • Plan Worksheet
    • $4001 application fee for each subdivision (PayPal available)
Please note, if Builder changes features during construction that affect CGB compliance, Builder shall immediately notify the CGB Coordinator.

The CGB Coordinator will review submitted materials to verify compliance with CGB requirements. Upon approval the CGB Coordinator shall designate the project as "CGB Applicant" pending final inspections of the subdivision(s). The Builder will be notified by phone or e-mail and will be provided an Environmental Benefits Report (EBR) for the community.

CGB Applicant is then entitled to designate the project as a California Green Builder subdivision or community and use the California Green Builder Logo and marketing materials.
  2. Contact a CGB certified rater2 to inspect homes as per the California Energy Commission’s (CEC) Sampling Method. The rater shall transmit inspection results to the HERS Provider (CalCERTS or CHEERS) who will then provide the rater with a CF-4R form. The Builder will provide the CGB Coordinator access to the registry for CGB projects in order to monitor CGB inspections or send the CGB Coordinator copies of the CF-4R for each home in a CGB community as they become available.

The CGB rater shall deliver the following to the CGB Coordinator and to the Builder:
    • Completed CGB-Rater Verification Form (RVF)
    • Completed California Green Building Standards Code Checklist
The CGB Coordinator will review the forms and when approved, will issue the builder a California Green Builder Project Certificate for the homeowner and an invoice for CGB participation for $50 per lot.

Please note that the CGB Coordinator shall randomly inspect homes to ensure that CGB requirements have been met.
  3. Builder will provide California Green Builder Project Certificate to homeowner.

1These fees do not include the cost of CGB-required third party inspections or per lot CGB certification fees.

2CGB certified inspectors are HERS Raters with additional CGB Training. CGB certified inspectors are independent third party contractors that must be retained and paid for by CGB builders, independent of CGB’s certification fees.
